Worker’s Voice: “We’re not trying to have no pity party”

Audio interview with tenant in Charlotte, North Carolina

A tenant at Ponderosa Apartments in Charlotte, North Carolina, talks about how landlords are rich because they take their wealth from someone else, and treat working people like they’re nothing.

“We’re not trying to have no pity party, we don’t want handouts, all we want is respect, because they forced us to sign this lease at this time when hysteria is going on, at this time when we don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, what conditions, being if I’m gonna have a job…I don’t know. But they forced us to sign this lease, with a $50 increase on the rent.”

“They look at us like we’re nobody. We’re beneath them, we’re inferior and they are superior.”

“Capitalism is connected to bigotry, racism, sexism. Capitalism is the biggest man stays on top. He steps on the smaller man’s back to climb to the top.”
