December 3 marks the birthday of the Chairman Gonzalo, leader of the Communist Party of Peru, the world’s greatest living Communist, teacher of teachers, the greatest Marxist-Leninist-Maoist on the face of the earth and the guarantor of the victory of the world proletarian revolution. Below are actions documented in the US and internationally taken to honor him and calling to defend his life.
A large mural depicting Chairman Gonzalo leading a sea of red flags and the slogan “Siempre Gonzalo nos guiará,” was seen in Austin.
The Tribune Support Committee in Austin held a study of “We begin to topple the walls and unfold a new dawn” in honor and celebration of Chairman Gonzalo’s 86th birthday. There was a short presentation on the reading’s context in the initiation of armed struggle in Peru as well as an explanation of Marxist political economy, as well as a discussion on its application to current organizing. At the end, the group committed to embracing revolutionary optimism and to overflow with enthusiasm, chanting “Long Live Chairman Gonzalo!” and “Long Live the People’s War in Peru!”
Graffiti was also documented reading, “Long live Chairman Gonzalo!” and “Gonzalo will always guide us!” in Spanish.
The Pittsburgh Tribune of the People Support Committee held a celebration and educational event for Chairman Gonzalo’s birthday at a downtown Pittsburgh park. A speech on Chairman Gonzalo, Maoism as the paper’s guiding ideology, and his importance was given over a megaphone before attendees moved into a general discussion. The backdrop for the event was a large banner with Gonzalo’s image reading, “Defend the life of Chairman Gonzalo, the world’s greatest living Communist!”
A wheatpasted mural reading “Viva Presidente Gonzalo!” was also documented.
Graffiti was documented reading, “Defend the life of Chairman Gonzalo! The world’s greatest living Communist! Long live Chairman Gonzalo!”
The Tribune Support Committee in Kansas City also held an event in honor of Chairman Gonzalo’s 86th birthday during which a speech was given, flares were set off, and attendees carried a red banner reading, “Long live Chairman Gonzalo!”
Elsewhere, graffiti reading, “Long live Chairman Gonzalo!” and “Gonzalo is always our guide!” was documented, as well as a banner drop that read, “Long live the universally valid contributions of Chairman Gonzalo!”
Graffiti reading, “Defend the life of Chairman Gonzalo, the world’s greatest living Communist!” was also seen in St. Louis.
Graffiti was documented in Santiago reading, “Defend the health and life of President Gonzalo, Long live the people’s war in Peru.”

Multiple instances of wall paintings were documented around the country, in Bremen, Hamburg, Heidelberg, Freiburg, and NRW celebrating Chairman Gonzalo’s birthday with slogans like, “Long live Chairman Gonzalo!” and “Defend the life of Chairman Gonzalo!”
Graffiti was documented in the area of Copenhagen reading, “Long live Chairman Gonzalo!”
Graffiti calling for the release of Chairman Gonzalo was documented in Dublin by Anti Imperialist Action Ireland.
