Week in Struggle: January 1-7

Brazil

Poor peasants in the Canaã revolutionary area, led by the League of Poor Peasants, are preparing resistance as the reactionary Old State in service to large landowners once again try to evict them from their land. The 100 peasant families in Canaã, located in the municipality of Ariquemes, Rondônia, have turned previously fallow lands into a productive agricultural area and provide food to the surrounding area for nearly 20 years since they originally settled there.

Popular lawyers and defenders of the people’s rights have also denounced the criminal actions of the state of Rondônia, their comments can be read here.

Additional images of graffiti promoting the election boycott in Brazil have also been documented over the past week, with slogans including “National Production, Work, and Decent Wages!” “Defend the Life of Chairman Gonzalo and his All-Powerful Thought!,” “Vaccine for the People Now!,” and “Down with the Government of Generals and their Fascist Captain!,” combined with “Elections No, Revolution Yes!” and “Elections No, People’s War Yes!”
