Week in Struggle: March 12-18

Turkey

Partizan released a statement in honor of the Kurdish holiday Newroz, a day of protest and uprising. The statement explained that only through violence would the Kurdish nation, workers, and the people of Turkey overthrow the exploitation of US imperialism and the Turkish ruling class.

Brazil

The National Commission of the League of Poor Peasants (LCP) released a video in solidarity with the revolutionary rapper and political prisoner Pablo Hasél. The video ends with a peasants and LCP members chanting, “Freedom to Pablo Hasél! Down with the Parasite Monarchy and the Spanish Imperialist State!”

In the metropolitan area of Recife in the state of Pernambuco, activists from the Coletivo Mangue Vermelho spoke to people about the demand for the Brazilian state to provide vaccines and emergency aid to the people as well as the Bolsonaro administration’s genocidal management of the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 500 pamphlets were distributed during the outing and the activists chanted, “Fascist state, the people are not fooled! Vaccination for the people is right and not almsgiving!”

Peasants in Canaã dos Carajás, in the state of Pará, erected a burning barricade along the road and hung a banner in in protest of the mining company Vale’s attempt to evict the families from their land. The banner read, “We don’t give up our lands! Out with Vale!” 800 families have occupied the land since 2015 and faced several eviction threats by Vale in the past.

Mexico

Opposition to the imperialist mega projects in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec continues to grow as peasants rise in resistance, agreeing to hold a permanent blockade of railways as well as the use of road barricades. The People’s Current Red Sun held an assembly on March 12 of communities affected by the imperialist development.

France

Protests erupted in Lyon after police chased a 13-year-old boy for allegedly stealing a scooter. During the chase, the young boy fell and was artificially put in a coma, in response people confronted the police and lit police cars and dumpsters on fire. The Revolutionary Youth released a short statement on their social media and pasted a large poster that read, “In the Face of Police Violence, It Is Right to Rebel!”

Revolutionary Youth chapters across France have been running popular solidarity tables, where food and other necessities are distributed, as well as organizing physical activities, banner making, and the pasting of flyers for the revolutionary newspaper La Cause du Peuple.

Graffiti and banner actions in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Paris Commune were seen in Lyon.

Graffiti promoting May 1, International Workers Day was reported in Austin alongside the slogan “It Is Right to Rebel!” along with a hammer and sickle.

Graffiti reading, “Defend the Life of Chairman Gonzalo!!” was also documented in Austin.

Los Angeles

Graffiti promoting May 1, International Workers’ Day was also reported in Los Angeles with the slogan “Proletarians of All Countries Unite!”

Kansas City
