For several weeks, Tribune of the People has covered the international campaign to defend the life and health of Chairman Gonzalo, the leader of the Communist Party of Peru (PCP, Partido Comunista del Perú) and Peruvian Revolution. Revolutionaries and activists around the world have demanded his release and that he receive immediate medical attention as he faces assassination at the hands of his jailers, the Peruvian State, with the backing of US imperialism.
The Tribune Support Committee in Austin spoke about Chairman Gonzalo near the University of Texas, greeting students and pedestrians with a large portrait of Gonzalo and invitations to a screening and discussion of “You Must Tell The World” to be held that evening. The film documents the early days of the campaign in defense of Chairman Gonzalo in the time after his capture on September 12, 1992.
The SC held a red banner reading, “Defend the Life and Health of Chairman Gonzalo” and made contact with students new to campus, raising awareness on why Gonzalo is so important to the World Proletarian Revolution.
Tribune’s Oxnard Support Committee and anti-imperialist organization Oxnard Revolutionary Study Group gathered in SouthWinds Park on Thursday. After producing two solidarity banners, speeches were given on the importance of answering the international call to defend the life and health of Chairman Gonzalo. The Tribune Support Committee also distributed articles to community members calling for Gonzalo’s release.
A banner was also documented raising the slogan to “Defend the Life and Health of Chairman Gonzalo!”

Elsewhere, informational posters on Chairman Gonzalo were documented.
The Tribune Support Committee in Pittsburgh held a study on Chairman Gonzalo, where Peruvian food was served. Attendees sang The Internationale and watched “You Must Tell the World.” During the film, one young attendee said “more people need to know about this—everyone needs to know about this!” As the event ended, one attendee said, “you know I talk to everybody, everyone is going to hear about Chairman Gonzalo.”
At a film screening of “How Yukong Moved the Mountains,” hosted by women revolutionary activists, an organizer spoke to those in attendance about the campaign to defend the life of Chairman Gonzalo. Attendees took a photo with a small solidarity banner that was put up in the park where the screening was held.
New England Tribune Regional Committee members distributed articles informing people about the international campaign to Move Heaven and Earth to Defend the Life of Chairman Gonzalo in transportation centers, commercial areas and proletarian neighborhoods in the cities of Worcester, Providence and Branford. A banner was also seen outside a popular park in a proletarian neighborhood in Providence with the slogan “Defend the life and health of Chairman Gonzalo!”
The Tribune Support Committee in Charlotte distributed articles about Chairman Gonzalo at a local transit center.
In other US cities, slogans and posters calling to Defend the Life of Chairman Gonzalo were documented.
In Copenhagen, articles were distributed and posted in solidarity with the campaign to defend the life of Chairman Gonzalo. These articles go into detail on the history of Chairman Gonzalo and his leading role in the Peruvian revolution as well as demanding his immediate freedom from the inhumane imprisonment he faces at the hands of the Peruvian State.
Graffiti was documented in Freiburg reading “Defend the life of Chairman Gonzalo!” alongside a hammer and sickle. In addition to graffiti, German revolutionary news service Dem Volke Dienen reports that a several hundred informational leaflets in the campaign for Chairman Gonzalo were distributed throughout the city.
