Week in Struggle: December 3-9

Brazil

Graffiti was seen throughout Brazil in support of the international day of action against the Indian military campaign ‘Operation Prahaar-3’ this past week. This operation is being carried out by Narendra Modi, the fascist president of India, against the People’s War in India led by the Communist Party of India (Maoist) [CPI (Maoist)]. The slogans read, “Down with Operation Prahaar-3! Long live the People’s War in India! Long live the CPI (Maoist)!”

France

This week in Paris, the Revolutionary Youth (Jeunes Révolutionnaires) participated in an antifascist march to highlight the boycott of the elections and the struggle of the people of Guadeloupe (an archipelago in the Caribbean occupied by France) who are fighting against bloody repression by the French colonial State.

The Revolutionary Youth alongside the revolutionary newspaper La Cause du Peuple commemorated four years since the passing of the paper’s founder, Comrade Pierre. A tribute was held in the Paris region in his honor. In a joyful atmosphere, his importance for the revolutionary movement in France and internationally was discussed. The paper states, “Our comrade Pierre dedicated his life to the proletariat: from his engagement in May ’68 to his death, he did not waver.” (May 1968 in France marked a historic period of intense rebellion by the people against the capitalist State, including a significant section of revolutionaries.)

Galicia

The Committee in Support of the People’s War in India carried out numerous propaganda actions as part of the international day of action against military operation Prahaar-3. Graffiti and posters denouncing the reactionary Prahaar-3 operation and in support of CPI (Maoist) and the People’s War in India were documented in the towns of Vigo, A Coruña, Ourense, Compostela, and Lugo.

Great Britain

Revolutionaries in Great Britain have been distributing posters in support of the international campaign in support of the People’s War in India and against the reactionary counterinsurgency campaign ‘Prahaar-3.’ The posters read, “Stop Prahaar-3, Long live the CPI (Maoist), Death to the fascist Modi regime.”

Finland

Revolutionaries and antifascists disrupted a fascist demonstration scheduled for Finland’s independence day despite repression from riot police. The revolutionaries shouted slogans such as “Death to fascism, freedom to the people!” “No peace to the fascists!” and “International solidarity! A proletarian [working-class] revolution!”

Later in the evening, about 1,500 people gathered for the “Helsinki without Nazis” protest, which ended in a street takeover, forcing police to change the route of the fascist march. The police responded with a complete blockade of the area, surrounded in all directions by an estimated 100 riot police, with a horse-mounted police force also on duty.

United States

In Austin, Texas, activists gathered downtown to commemorate the birthday of Garrett Foster on December 4. Foster was gunned down by reactionary US Army sergeant Daniel Perry last year during the May Uprisings. Activists held a banner reading, “People’s justice for Garrett Foster, Servant of the people, defender of Black lives.”

In Los Angeles, California, graffiti was documented reading, “People’s justice for all victims of police violence!” and “People’s justice for Guillermo Amezcua!”  Amezcua was shot at least 60 times by San Fernando police officers while sitting in his car in San Fernando, California, in April of this year. Revolutionaries alongside Amezcua’s family members have united to fight for people’s justice for his death at the hands of the San Fernando Police Department.

In Los Angeles, graffiti commemorating Chairman Gonzalo and the People’s War in Peru was also documented. Chairman Gonzalo is the recognized leader of the Communist Party of Peru, his 87th birthday was celebrated by workers and revolutionaries across the world on December 3.

Elsewhere in Los Angeles, graffiti supporting the League of Poor Peasants (LCP, Liga dos Camponeses Pobres) in Brazil was also documented. The LCP organizes poor peasants in their struggle for land in Brazil’s countryside.

In Los Angeles, the slogan, “Capitalism causes your problems socialist revolution solves them” and a hammer and sickle were also documented.
